Archaeologies of the Postdigital

Our latest show, Archeologies of the Postdigital (2020), is from artist and academic Mark Richardson. Through this work Richardson asks, how might future beings discover humanity’s past when our waste leaves no trace? The artwork commemorates the passing of digitally-derived artefacts, totems to consumer-goods prototypes designed through digital processes in emerging circular economies.  The 3D-printed digital artefacts, whose materials would otherwise decompose or be reused and their bytes erased, mark a moment in time for our kind that would otherwise be lost.
