“Sir” Leslie Thornton
Through the Windows is a glimpse into the inner workings of Les’ decades long
practice. For Les, it is the pleasure of the idea that comes first, with the means, following.
He is never without a ubiquitous notebook and pen in his top pocket (like his hanky,
they go everywhere with him.) He is a consummate collector of ideas, delightfully
analogue. These sketches and nascent concepts accumulate in stacks of notebooks
in boxes, a veritable treasure trove and tribute, with Les as intrepid interpreter.
Recently some of these drawings were collated into a series of zines, now on sale at
the Castlemaine Art Museum. “I’m surprised they turned out so well, I never
expected that!” he states dryly.
Come and spend some time free-reading the germination of ideas that may or may
not be developed further………
